Former Crystal Palace attacker Jordan Ayew returned the praise from Daniel Muñoz ahead of this mornings World Cup reunion in Colombia v Ghana.
The two players shared a dressing room at Selhurst Park, where Ayew also played alongside Jefferson Lerma before leaving Palace.
Muñoz had already spoken warmly about Ayew earlier, making clear the Ghana forward had helped him at Crystal Palace. Now Ayew has done the same.
Speaking in a press conference covered by Infobae Colombia, Ayew was asked about facing Muñoz and Lerma.
“The truth is that I really enjoyed playing with them. They are very good people, top-level players and good friends as well,” he said.
“I haven’t seen them for a while, but tomorrow, not before the game but after it, we will definitely have a good conversation.”
Ayew backs Ghana under pressure
Jordan Ayew also insisted Ghana were not be affected by Colombia’s higher standing. Colombia are 11th in the FIFA ranking and Ghana are 65th, but Ayew dismissed the gap.
“In football, I think every game starts from zero, on equal terms,” he said. “What I can guarantee is that we will make Africa and Ghana proud.”
Ayew also said Ghana’s players can respond well to pressure.
“I’m quite sure that is one of our attributes, because I believe that under pressure the boys will flourish,” he added.
The Ghana forward remembered the country’s run to the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals and said this match can help bring joy back to the nation.
